I just got my 2005 m3 cab today. The previous owner had some sweet modifications done. The exhaust is a little too loud for my liking...it is currently a SS race, with SS X & S pipe. What would be the best thing to do to quiet it down? Should i remove the SS race and replace with the OEM muffler, and keep the X & S pipes, or remove those but keep the SS race on? What difference will each make? FWIW I believe I have the non resonated versions....
Thx |

if you have the OEM headers, then get the borla midpipe that should solve it and remove the drowning. but if u have aftermarket headers I don't recommand that.

I have stock headers, but from there it is SS S & X pipe, then to SS race exhaust

Sell everything to me and if that doesn't work, buy some ear plugs.
Come on... it's a cab! It's gonna be noisy. Mine is relatively quiet for a cab, but I'm running a stock exhaust with water treatment and a coil over with 400# springs for a softer ride than a coupe.

the ss race setup sounds sweet. trust me you will regret taking it off after a while. the stock setup is good if you like to hear your heartbeat.

I used to have an e39 m5 with SS headers, xpipe and kelleners....which was much louder than the m3. The sound though was incredible. The m3 sounds like a ***** out civic with this setup. I don't mind a loud exhaust if it sounds good, but IMO this setup does not sound good to me. If anyone is interested in this full setup, you can PM me an offer. It has barely been on the car. I should be swapping out to a stock setup tomorrow or the following day.

jcardona, I do actually......I already have the stock muffler....just looking for the stock pipes, which I would prefer to purchase locally because of the shipping hassle, but I should have the SS race available to sell within the next few days

Probably the least expensive option is to sell the SS pieces and install the Borla mid-pipe and your OE muffler. I have the x-pipe with resonator, along with the SS street muffler. I'm real happy with the sound, in and out of the cabin; and with the extra little push from the x-pipe configuration. |
