I'm in between $40k and $50k and I'm not done yet. By the way, I'm a former Porsche 911 owner x 2. I also don't track my car and opted for a Show 'n Go project car. The day I sell it she'll go complete and I'll take my time and advertise it in highend mags. I didn't build the car to sell it, but there would be too much stuff to take off, although I still have all OEM stuff. The market is small for these types of cars, but just the same you'd have to expect it to take a while. On the other hand, if it's a tracker it might be less appealing. Mine's a keeper for some time. Been the P-car route.

Here's my mod list from Summer 2005 to present:

OEM Hardtop
OEM Wind Buffer
Colored Reflectors - OEM Bumper

Excess money spent on mods must be considered money spent for your own enjoyment, because the odds are slim to none that you will get your money out. As fun as it is, making the car your own with big $$ mods...the reality of the foolishness sets in at resale time. Additionally the more personal you make thee car, the narrower your potential buyer pool.

Your best bet is to save the OEM parts and retore the car to stock, except for minor items. Your group of potential buyers, as well as the attractiveness of your car to a buyer increases...the closer it is to stock. Even selling the used parts seperately, you will be lucky to get 40% of your money back...at best.

The moral of the story is that unless you are a member of the lucky sperm club (family money), spending what amounts to 100% of the value of a car on mods is lunacy....and expecting to get anything back on the 'investment' is a pipe dream.

This reality check is brought to you from experience!

^ This is true, but then there's the enjoyment factor. Afterall, what do you really need? Isn't most everything in life a waste? Why go out and eat an expensive meal or drink expensive wine, buy expensive clothes, live in an expensive house (okay, I'm pushing it there - the house in most cases = good investment)? You get my drift.

I understand what you're saying though and of course you're correct. We're all crazy (or at least some)!

Most people on the market, I can gaurantee wouldn't be looking for a tracked car.
i fail to see the connection between tracking a car and doing frequent launches and burnouts. tracking does not imply abuse... hard driving, yes, but not abuse. in fact, my guess is that folks that track their cars probably take better care of them than a lot of folks that don't.

If you go the part out route Ken, I'd be interested in your CSL seats and door panels. Good Luck with your plans.
