Default Sp..sp..sport mode!

I had the 1200 mile service today, so on the way back I thought i'd just give sport mode a little try. I was pretty nervous, driving some twisty lanes in the wet and concentrating on trucking right (ten points for the song reference..). Anyway, I pressed the sport button and tried to move up to S6, but nothing happened, so I quickly turned it all off again and took a couple of deep breaths (I was *very* nervous ). Then I realised "DSC!" So I waited for a straight bit of road, turned off DSC, hit the sport button again and she instantly went rigid! It's the oddest feeling the first time you do it, that kind of tightly wound spring sensation. Your foot, your hands, your posture, everything reacts to it, and - I know it's a terrible clichè - you really do feel 'at one' with the car.

I tried some gentle gear changes and she just felt so alive, like an adrenalin rush, like the car had just sniffed a line of coke! Then the sky suddenly darkened, one of those instant dusk things in the middle of the day, the wind got right up and there's leaves and bits of deadwood blowing everywhere, really autumnal. And I suddenly realise i'm laughing, really loud, throwing my head back for the joy of it all, the pure, hedonistic pleasure of driving this car with the world howling around me.
It doesn't get any better than this.

I realise that if any non-car enthusiast was reading this they'd think I was coming across like a complete w*nker, but I was really having a moment out there.

I know exactly where you're coming from. Too many people these days seem to be stuck on 11 sec. 1/4 miles. Enthusiasm for the driving experience seems all but lost.
My only time in the E46 M3 will stay with me until I get my own. The car was just so balanced. From the interior/exterior styling to its acceleration and handling. My face was hurting from all the grinning.
Enjoy it!
