Question m50 manifold

at www. m50manifold.com they are saying that the m50 manifold will produce a gain of 20 to 30 horses, is this true? Im thinking about purchasing this product myself on my e36 fer that extra lil sum sum. If anyone knows about this topic, i would greatly appreciate some positive feedback, so i dont blow 400 dollars on some b/s. Thanks.

You will get mixed reviews...some saying "omg yes go for it" and some saying its a wash because you lose low end torque. I wouldn't know because I haven't done it. There have been a few threads on this topic though.

The overall consensus is that it is the best HP mod for the buck. I'm personally doing mine in about 2 weeks (from Eric as well). I'm dynoing this Saturday before the mod and I'll be dynoing in the future after it. I'll be sure to post my results.

It will not get you 20-30whp. One thing you have to realize is that most products that show horsepower gains do exadgerate. However, some are more honest with their description.

From what I have heard, the m50 manifold will make a noticeable difference in power on the high end, past 4000-4500 RPM's. It's a mod that I would do in the future for sure. If you are looking for a better high end in the RPM range, go for it. Down low torque loss is minimal and greatly makes up for it, and then some, in the high end. This is what most m50 owners tell me.

The M50 manifold swap can be done for around $100 if you don't want the fancy billet plate the bolts under the manifold for all the connections. It surprises me that so many people are willing to spend an extra $300 on something they can't even see.

If you look at dynos from M3's before and after the manifold you will see an average peak gain of 15RWHP. and peak RWTQ will be about the same but shifted several hundred RPM higher in the rev band.

for example M3's on average make about 205-208 RWHP and about 210-215 RWTQ in a relatively stock configuration. add a CAI and software and HP goes up to about 210-212 but TQ shoots up to the 223-225 range. (i don't think software has much to do with this tho) add a M50 manifold to this and most people dyno in the 230-235 RWHP range and TQ stays in the 220-225 range. my dyno link is in my sig.

now add the M50 manifold to something with FI and +30RWHP is absolutely possible.

yes you can do this mod for about $100. but many many people who go the $100 route end up redoing it in about a year...I did, and I know several people who bought my kit after they already had their M50 installed (and there are prob just as many that haven't admitted it too).

any 1 of the kits will get the job done for you...none will have higher HP or TQ output. some will be more reliable than others. and the installs are slightly different too.

hope this helps.

Eric

Did we get the info on the dyno this saturday? thought phil was looking for info too. would be a great excuse to take the car out, help out a good cause, AND get some good numbers on the M50 after (not that I have any before numbers! )

Porshapwr - thanks, man - it was a great time! Thanks again for the invite! Looking forward to putting in another one of these fine mods into your car on the 21st!

Eric - I know you'll check this thread when it gets updated, so I just wanted to say THANK YOU for helping me get numbers like THIS:

Uncorrected 245.49 rwhp @ stock redline, decent torque curve, although peak is a little later with the M50 at about 4250rpm. I saw the corrected numbers, and they were all 235.x rwhp! Believe me, even though I never dynoed it before, I am sure that I wouldn't have gotten those kind of numbers without your kit installed! Awesome!

I agree....there are many reviews for and against this mod. I was on the fence at first as well but am glad I spent the $ because the top end opens up a lot. I used the kit from m50 manifold and prior to doing the swap I could really feel the motor start to die between 5 and 6k. Now when I am at 5 - 6k it really keeps pulling. I noticed a slight loss of tq on the low end but not enough to trade for what I gained on the top end. Getting on the freeway is extremely fun now! I don't think you will be disappointed if you spend the money. There is a completely different debate on which kit is the best....good luck.
