yes that's right, but you lose TV

and i watch my TV alot driving to/from work. Aus cars got digital TV tuners so the picture is crystal clear pretty much all the time

re the bent connection, im not elec expert either, but it might be worth opening up the plug and just checking whether the wires havent come off the terminals/plugs

i know how u feel, i hate spending hours removing trim and installing parts to have them not work

That's cool that you can get a quality TV picture. From everything I've read, it's pretty terrible in the US. Some DVD players have built in TV tuners, so if I really wanted TV, I would pick up one of them.

I mainly bought this to watch concert DVDs and occasionally movies on trips to the beach (2-3 hours).

I also installed a dietz, and have been trying to complete the install for about the last month or so. In order to loose the whine that was caused by ground loop interference, I had to use a ground loop filter between the RCA cables and the DVD player.

Also to clean up the sound I ran the positive lead for the DVD player directly to the positive lead under the hood.

I also get the faint lines running down the Nav screen, it is faint by annoying.

How did you mount the SD-20 in the glove? I have been trying to do this, and it look like I will need to cut the GB, any info would be appreciated.

Hey Zero,
What DVD player are you using? Is your sound good now? Please also let me know what ground loop filter you're using. If you're using the SD-20, I think it would be interesting for you to pop in a Concert DVD or a reguar CD to see how the sound is - it was heavily distorted in my setup.

I'll pass your comments on to the guys who installed this for me so they can try it next week...

As for mounting the DVD player, see the attached picture. We used 1 piece of the bracket that was included with the SD-20. This is on the left side of the player and screwed into the glove box and then screwed into the dvd player. On the right side, we used the other piece of the bracket (which required putting a very small hole in the glovebox so that the bracket could be screwed into the DVD player). We dremeled small holes in the back so there would be room for the AV, Power, and IR cables. Be careful that you have enough room in the front to hook up the AUX input in case you ever use it.

I'll try to see if I can get some better pics later.

Hopefully we can help each other get these set up right...

I am using the same DVD player that you are the SD-20. For the filter it is just something I picked up from Fry's. I have the packaging at home and I can post up more info tonight.

The mounting in the glove looks awesome. I was try to mount mine on the left side. I had to use 90 degree RCA adapters as well to make the cables fit.

Your set up looks really good, I am curious to see how you got the cables though. I cut some tiny holes as well, but I still need to make some more changes as it still did not fit well.

The more pictures that you could give me the better.

Yeah, that nick hurt pretty bad. I'm trying to figure out what my options are to get it fixed.

I guess our cars were separated at birth...

The cheapest way to fix it is to wait for someone to part out a totalled car and then pick up what you need cheap. If you get it from the dealer, it will cost a lot.

I've been wanting to do this for a while... I'm not much of a DIY guy so how hard would this be for me? A friend has it and after seeing his I'm hooked.

I'm thinking I'll call Bravo directly as opposed to going through buy.com since the thing (and all of its cables/accessories) is already installed and hacked up.

Hopefully they will just send a replacement player minus everything else.

Anyone have any suggestions for the nick in the door as pictured in Post #3 above?

Cheers.
FYI - the SD20s were recently discontinued, BV is moving to a different model without the TV tuner.

We are going to be moving to a new model imported from overseas that integrates a digital TV tuner and smaller Credit Card sized remote, while still remaining DIN-sized. Also, we'll have a package that allows for a glovebox mount with no cutting necessary.

If you are not much of a DIY guy, I'd say it's best to leave it to someone who has done this before. Tapping into all the wires and running the AV cables from the glovebox to the trunk is no simple task for the inexperienced. Plus, modifying the glovebox to mount the DVD player is not something I would do on my M3 for the first time. In fact, I wouldn't want to do any of this stuff to my M3 if I hadn't done it before...

I watched the guys do my install and there's no way I would have known what to do without someone holding my hand.

Until I get all of the issues resolved, though, I can't say that I wholeheartedly recommend spending $800+/- on this...

What setup did your friend have?
