Just found out some of the dimensions. It's going to be 2 inches shorter than the E36 M3 coupe, 1/4 inch more narrow, an inch taller and is supposed to weigh in at 3150lbs. Sounds like an E30/E36 M3 hybrid with a badass twin turbo engine. Throw in a LSD and you're in good shape. Say bye-bye to the STi and Evo r1cers.

But BMW needs to be careful and not do what Porsche did with the Cayman S and 997 (regular Carrera) performance wise.

Also might have a possible name problem with the original M1.
I remember reading this also, in the front of the magazine it said the new M1!! but in small letters in the bottom it said, "just kidding but good way to grab your attention", and they were talking about the new 1 series. I think the magazinr was about the new cars coming out and how they performed...fooled me also htough.

$35k > $65-70k anyday!

With $2k in mods it will beat the E92 M3 in a straight line. Like I said the M is obviously a far superior car and if both were free but I had to pick one, I would pick the M.

I think the weight advantage of the 1 series will really bring it handling wise close to the M3 out of the box. The only thing needed will be an LSD. If the 1er coupe has the same steering as the 1er hatch (which I had for 18months) it would also steer better.

nuts? Put a little bit of money into mods - coilovers, slight HP boost, wider tires, and I think It'll be a better overall performance car -- so long as it can keep from overheating.

This does all rely on the 135i actually weighing in at 3150lbs, of course. If it ends up weighing a lot more, different story.

Untill you come in to a corner. There is alot more to a EVO or STi than straight line. I hate to say it but they outhandle ///Ms by a long shot, Let alone a 135i.

That being said, I own A ///M3 and A Evo. And I cant remember the last time i drove the Evo The Japanese Econo Rockets lack the refinement and driving pleasure that A ///M delivers.

BMW press release says that "M-like trimmings" are standard and will be optional for lesser models. last time i priced out a 335 to my likings came out to be 42k. so i believe 1 won't be over 40k.

I do agree that BMW over engineered this twin turbo engine to put a big shadow over its V8s.

I would buy this 1 series over over-priced E92 3series anyday.
