Default Oil Pump Nut

So... speaking to the STIG, if you haven't done it, DO IT!! Apparently it's a big flaw in our motors and can cause the worst fears to come true.

Anyone actually done it themselves or have an idea of a step by step on how to get to it? Post up and be informed!

You have to drop the oil pan to get to it which is a RPITA. I had mine done at a shop, but yes HUGE problem on our cars.

5 page OPN thread:
http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=165750

There are several step by step procedures on the web floating around, just need to be patient and search. There was a PDF download from Shade Tree BMW but the link looks dead for now.

The job was quoted at about 7-8 hours from two race shops in CA, about $90 dollars/hr for labor.

Unbolt the front subframe and let it hang there. You may or may not need to unbolt the PS rack. Undo all the bolts holding the oil pan on. Remove nut. Replace nut with safety-wired one (available from Bimmerworld), using loctite red. Bolt it back up.

It's annoying to do, but doesn't take anywhere near 7-8 hours.
