Default Had dealer perform "the Obioban mod" - best FREE mod ever!

I came in for inspection 1 yesterday. The dealer performed valve adjustment amongst an oil change and a few other tasks. While at it, I gave them a print-out of the following, word-for-word:

Theye didn't even charge me to do this. I gave them these instrutions, which I found on the forum months ago and didn't seem like many people saw:

1. Connect the car to the DIS system.
2. Choose "1. Car Memory"
3. Choose "9. Seat/Mirror Memory"
4. Choose "2. Mirror Memory Automatic Kerb Parking Function"
5. Choose "1. Active" (It is set to "Inactive" by default)
6. Upload the new settings to the car.
7. Turn the ingnition off and then back on.
8. Disconnect the car from the DIS system.

To position the mirror:
1. Push the mirror selector switch to the passenger side.
2. Put the car in reverse. (The mirror should tilt down)
3. Adjust the mirror position to what ever makes you happy.
4. Put the car back into N or 1. (The mirror should tilt back up)
I knew they won't be able to charge me for it, especially because of the...

Reverse tilt is now actually useful! It is probably the best FREE mod ever! I positioned the mirror so that I can see my rear OEM 18" wheel. Quite honestly I can never see myself scraping any one of my wheels with this mod.

Thanks Obioban

EDIT: There seems to be a lot of confusion over what this "mod" actually does. Let me be more clear:

For many of us, the passenger-side mirror on the E46 M3 has the ability to automatically tilt down when the car is in reverse. However, once tilted, the mirror CANNOT be adjusted. After having a BMW dealer perform the programming instructions listed above, the mirror CAN be adjusted when it is tilted. Moreover, the mirror memorizes this adjustment.

Its not technically a mod - it was/can be set whenever the car had its owner options originally set at the dealer.

I think that just because it is achieved programmatically doesn't mean it's not a mod. MOST M3's reverse tilt is NOT functional in the States.

We can roll down all windows with the key, but we cannot roll them back up, like they can in Europe. If you made this happen, it would also be a mod. That's how I see it.

my stealer keeps telling me that this is not possible.
I printed out the directions, word by word, including the "they didnt even charge me" part and the tech told me that he knows exactly what the directions mean and that it's not possible.

That mirror tilting is a function, not a mod...

This is the full list of the Car and Key Memory functions that can be activated/deactivated thru DIS: http://www.x5world.com/articles/x5/g...formation.html

Can you aim it? By reprograming this, you get to choose where it aims and then it goes there every time. By default the car will aim down, but it's only useful to people within a certain heigh range/seat position. At 6'3, it would just point at the ground for me stock

If you have power seats, this is possible. If you don't have power seats, you don't get reverse tilt. If you do have them... tell them to show you

Mod is short for modification, aka a variation from how the car came stock. He has modified how the car acts, so it's a mod
