Default DIY: Installing Umnitza Eagle Eye LED taillights

Thought i'd make another little DIY for the Umnitza Eagle Eye LED taillights, made a thread a while ago, and everybody suggested OEM LED's but I didn't feel like spending $450.00 plus a visit to the dealership for a reflash and more money on top of that to do that. So with Umnitza having a sell on their LED's for $274.99 and no reflash required I thought i'd try them out. I ordered them and when they got here they were smoked, I went back and checked and realized that I had checked smoked when I ordered them. Umnitza allowed me to send back the smoked ones and they immediately got me the clear ones back out, very good customer service. Here is a link to the lights http://www.umnitza.com/product_info....oducts_id=1150 and here is what they looked like out of the box.

Step 1: Open the trunk and locate the tabs, you don't have to remove all of them just the top 6.

Step 2: Take a flathead screwdriver and pop the top portion of the clip off until the entire thing is removed.

Step 3: Make sure you have all 6 of the clips completely removed.

Step 4: Pull down the liner to reveal the inside portion of the taillight on the trunklid. (don't worry about the liner breaking, you can bend this stuff however you want it will pop back into shape)

Step 5: Find the tab on the black box and unclip the box completely (be careful there is a bulb attached to this black box)

Step 6: Take a 10mm socket and loosen the nut holding the light to the body.

Step 7: Once the nut is removed push out the old OEM light and put it somewhere safe.

Step 8: Replace the old OEM light with the one provided in the Umnitza kit, and pop it into place.

Step 9: With the 10mm socket tighten the LED light back down until its secure against the trunk lid.

Step 10: Reattach the black box to the new Umnitza inside taillight.

Step 11: Push the liner back into place.

Step 12: Replace the 6 clips.

Step 13: Pull up the bottom trunk mat and remove the clips that hold the trays on both sides of the inside of the trunk.

Step 14: Take something small and sharp, I have a small punch that I used, to get underneath this green clip and the top of it will pop off.

Step 15: After removing enough of the clips, pull back the liner to gain access to the taillight.

Step 16: Push the tab and pull of the black box, unplug it completely as this won't be needed.

Step 17: With a 10mm socket remove the 3 nuts that hold the OEM taillight in place.

Step 18: After some shaking and pulling remove the OEM taillight.

Step 19: Take the Umnitza LED taillight feed the back place and all the wiring through the hole as shown.

Step 20: Get all the wires pushed though and the studs of the taillight pushed through the 3 holes.

Step 21: Pull all the wires to the side and snap the back plate onto the LED taillight.

Step 22: Plug the connector from the Umnitza LED taillight to the OEM connector.

Step 23: Get all 3 electrical boxes and note how they have double sided tape already connected to them.

Step 24: Remove the backing of double sided tape and secure the boxes where you would like to, make sure they're tucked away nicely and not able to move around. This is the way I secured mine, there are tons of options though.

Step 25: Replace the liner and trays and this is how the lights look from behind when they are finally completed.

Here are some comparison pictures:

Here are before and after pictures of the taillights.

AFTER

And here is a final picture, excuse the missing diffuser, waiting on it to get painted, figured i'd install these in the meantime.

Hope this helps.

Actually did that on the side that I didn't snap the pics of. I may go back and chance the side pictured.
