guys, seriously this isn't hard at all. Here:

1. Download this file: Link: http://tinyurl.com/3ro675
2. Download this program: http://www.imgburn.com/
3. Once file from step #1 is downloaded, unzip contents
4. Open imgburn, select "write mode" and change the write speed to 1x
5. Insert a CDR (not DVDR) into computer and burn
6. Walk out to car with the CD you just burned
7. Turn your key to the first position
8. Eject NAV cd
9. Insert new CD into NAV
10. Wait until screen says update complete
11. Disc ejects automatically, re-insert Nav

You're done.

Yes, you can't update if both the nav computer and the update disc have the same OS version (v31 in this case), downgrade to v30 then back up to v31.

IIRC, when you did this with earlier versions of the software, it would kick you into euro mode, wherein distances would be yards, or something like that?

The only fix, at that point, would be to have the dealer recode the nav?

It can, but not always, I think that it only did this if it were a major revision change say v29 to v26 and back, 1 step backwards should be OK. (I could be wrong though).

You can do it yourself if you have an small application called navcoder and an i-bus interface, it's a 30 second job then. Navcoder will also allow other things like TV in motion, BT VR enable, split screen loading, different languages displayed, LCM coding etc.

Have a look here

For those of you who already have v31 installed but want the modded options, I've made up another image (same mods) but with a modified version number.

Here is the link (again you do this at your own risk).

http://tinyurl.com/5wpsqk

Follow the same update procedure and you should have no problems.

--
Update procedure.

When its finished writing your new firmware cd,
Goto the car open the drivers door,
Goto the nav computer and press eject on drive,
Eject the map disc,
Switch ign to pos 1, leave door open.
Insert firmware disc into drive, follow instruction on nav screen.
Wait (approx 6 mins) till sat nav asks to eject cd and reboot.
Eject cd,
Confirm reboot.

Thats it.

Do not switch off ignition or close the door when doing the upgrade.

Funny thing is that I can burn ccfj1's modified iso to a CDR and load the modded ver31 with no problem.

When I try to replace rombitmaps #14 with my own .gif file using NavTweak the Navigation will not recognize the cd as an update. 400 width x 234 height

With the modified navboot file from:
V_2\RR\0101\BMWC01S\app_sw

I create a new iso file using ImgBurn then burning the iso to a blank CDR it will not work for the life of me. I am burning at 1x speed. It works fine when I burn and load v30 and ccfj1's modded v31 update.

I have gone through like 10 CDR's now. Luckily they are cheap.

Anyone have any ideas?

It worked on mine, thanks for your turn by turn directions. Wish all the street names were visible though

Your friend's navigation is CD-Rom. You'll need different formatting for it to work.

See this lengthy thread for more details: (You'll have to read a lot of posts before they start addressing your problem.)
