Default Service engine light soon- code- P1717 Manufacturer Control Transmission..what is tha

Ok so yesterday my service engine light came on and it stayed on. Took it to pep boys today and it says code P1717 Manufacturer control transmission. What is that mean???

the car drives fine to me. I think i also deleted the code from the code reader cause now the service engine light doesnt show up anymore.

Anyways..what should i do..???

so last night my smg failure came on and when trying to park..it wouldnt catch the gear. anyways...took the car into the dealer today. waiting to hear back. lets see what happenes!

It's an issue with the SMG hydraulic unit. Could be the relay or the unit itself

I had the same code a few months ago, turned out to be the relay.

not trying to start a 6mt vs. smg war here, but man SMGs sound like the biggest pain in the ass POS trannys out there - every other thread is a my SMG is failing thread


guess i am just glad i have 6spds and a manually controlled clutch - which has 114,000 plus miles and going strong

i really agree...i'm sure its a great piece of technology and it makes driving the car fun, but it seems like the actual unit is unreliable and prone to a lot of problems. the fact that 6mt is more reliable is almost a good enough reason to bypass SMG
