Part of the vinyl door panel is slightly tacky / sticky

Part of my door panel (middle of the door where my elbow rests while driving with my left arm) has become very slightly tacky or sticky recently.

The material was slightly worn after years of driving (i.e. shinier than the surrounding vinyl), but virtually unnoticeable. After a recent rainshower, however, my shirt was slightly damp when my elbow was resting on the window sill, resulting in a small black stain on my shirt, and leaving behind a slightly tacky patch of door panel in this area.

Has anyone experienced this before, and if so, is there a way to refinish the vinyl? Perhaps the panel will regain its smoothness on its own in a few days. Any thoughts? Let me know if my post needs clarification...this is a tough one to explain.

The "vinyl" is actually leather.. try using some leather cleaner and treatment on it.
