Default Any cyclist out there?

I am an avid cyclist and enjoy going out to the lake for a spin. But since being a new owner of an '04 M3 for about two months now, I have been a little gunshy about putting a bike rack on the back. So has anyone been brave enough to put one on the back of their M3? I have a Saris Bones bike rack by the way.

I have the same problem.. I am fortunate to have a beat-up small suv for my bike transportation... I would never put anything on the paint of my baby... no even a fingerprint.

Same boat, we stick our bikes in the Jeep.

I've used the Saris bones rack on the M. I use microfiber towels on all the contact points to minimize scratches when I have to transport 2 bikes. If its just my bike (56 cm Road Bike), I take off the front wheel and the whole thing fits inside the car with the rear seats folded.

If you are worried about the rack in the back, why not go with the roof rack option?

Don't do it. Like the others, I use our SUV for such tasks. Besides once you get in the M3 it is hard to get out instead of just keep on drivin! Does the frame fit in your trunk and maybe the wheels in the back seat or something like that. I ride a 60cm Madone 5.2 and though I have never tried I think I might squeeze it in.......just a thought on trying that instead of tearing up your trunk lid.

uh..uh....don't do it!...something horrible will go wrong one trip and a scratch will be inevitable...and you will kick yourself for doing this...I am an avid cyclist as well and ride from home [mostly]...otherwise, the truck hauls the bikes to the start

I might try that. I used a Bones II on a Mustang and it did make some small scratches. I imagine with a small piece of MF, it might not scratch at all.
