Sunroof Visor off track? - DIY Repair Inside

***PROBLEM SOLVED AND EVERYTHING IS FIXED - NOTED ON PAGE THREE OF THIS THREAD***

My sunroof works fine but the visor is not closing properly. It got stuck about 1/4 of the way and would not let the sunroof close for 1 cycle. Sunroof then closes and the visor gets stuck. After wiggling it a bit it slides shut but it is definitely not on track.

I searched on this site and on google (for all other forums) didn't find anyone that has put theirs back on track.

Any ideas - is this a fairly common thing? I checked with BMW NA, warranty is over as of 5/08 so it's gonna come out of pocket.

The thing is, this is a 2004 with just under 39,000 miles! Damn it!

Has anyone come across this situation and had it fixed or appraised? Remember, the motor and window are fine - visor issue only.

I had same problem. It was fixed under warranty though.

Did they say anything about it, like how much it would've costed or the difficulty involved, what parts are needed?

The tech that fixed mine said there was a repair kit they used. He also said it was not easy to fix.

Interesting. I will look into the repair kit.

Sounds promising, not a whole replacement of the top of the car (cut at all 4 corners an replace) sarcastic LOL.

yeah, mine got thrown off track last year.
warranty covered it... thankfully.

Just take it apart and see what's wrong... put it back on track or replace the broken parts.

If you DIY I positive you'd be looking at <$20

Hey, i'm gonna have to hit you up when I go back to visit family - I used to drive up to the Art Museum and South Street. Thanks for the positive outlook/optimism with this sunroof issue.

I heard one of the other guys mention a repair kit. I don't want to mess with it too much in order to avoid risking further damage.

Any links on how to remove the parts I have to in order to put the new kit parts in?

close sunroof, slide sunshade open.
take out the glass with T25 torx screw 6 in total.
slide sunshade close and then you'll see 2 sliders on the left with T10 torx screws.
take out screws and sliders and slide out sunshade. done.
