I have both the V1 (in my car) and the 9500 (in my wife's) and even though the lack of falses on roads that I drive daily is nice, for me the lack of arrows, lack of stealth one display and auto muting, and decreased sensitivity is FTL. Also, the laser detection is pretty useless on both and I recommend a jammer (am waiting for Obioban's GB myself) as the wife has gotten pulled over twice for laser with the 9500 while driving a very inconspicuous white 335 e90 ...

Another thing about the 9500, on a cloudy day you often have the falses come back as it loses GPS lock...

I think each one is good in its own way and wish there was a V1 with GPS ... Mike Valentine, hope you're reading this post!!

The thing is, each has its advantages against individual models of LIDAR units. Each of the above does well on average, with specific types of LIDAR making a particular unit worthless.

So, just asking for which you think is the best and what makes it so.

Rob (Red Baron), keep in mind, this area is heavily Stalker based. Some units will do very well against other LIDARs (like LTI Ultralite) but fail on Stalkers, or do very well against Stalkers and fail on the LT1. Note, just using those two as an example. The one that I mentioned to you does very well against the Stalker.

FYI, there is a new version of the 9500i, I think 9500ix or something like that, which allows you to download info to the detector of GPS locations of traffic cameras, false alarm monitoring radar, etc.

Isn't there another (version 2.0 if you will) laser technology that is to be released soon. If I remember correctly this new tech will hasten the obsolescences of exiting laser systems. I guess it depends on the municipality's budget as to how fast the adaption rate will be for your general local.

As for the V-1 / Escort, just remember these are driver aids - not completely fool proof (GPS or not). The detector alerts must be assessed in context of surroundings and location. Research the areas you most frequently travel and make an informed detection as to what is best for radar detection in your area.

Personally, I cannot live without the V-1 (x-band off, Logic mode, Stealth One).
Oh and the combination of a BearCat scanner & V-1 is priceless.

I'm running a scanner as well, but you should really get a CB if you're getting serious about this-- much more useful than the scanner. I might even rate the CB as more useful than the V1, but that's a hard call.

New generation of jammers is upon us... that's why I'm finally upgrading mine!

The answer to No. 1 is "no". V1 does not have stealth ability against detector detectors.

Check out the 7th and 8th paragraphs in the link below:

http://www.laserveil.com/beltronics/bel/sti-driver/

Also, Valentine's website says it's probably vunerable to some detector detectors.

For the record, I got a ticket in Ontario in 2006 for having my V1 on.

Also I hate the fact that V1's mute button is the volume knob. whenever i go to mute something, the knob gets turned a little bit and the volume changes. They need to have a separate mute button. Also the passport radars have a better display. I used to have it set to 'expert mode' and that was awesome. it showed all the bands at once and the signal level of each. V1 advertises their products as the ONLY radar that covers all bands or covers 360 degrees or something like that and that's not true. Escort does it too and the rest of the cheap radars nowadays offer 360 degree protection so that slogan is getting old. I personally think V1's are over-rated and think that i made a $440 mistake but I can deal with it. I might sell it and go back to X50. Im not too fond of the 9500i's design.

I just got my V1 recently as well...here are my thoughts on the V1 and radars in general...First of all I know its technically superior to most, if not all detectors on the market and I know it will save my a$$ over time but....The thing looks like it was designed in 1983...Its friggin huge...with the sloping windshield in our cars I feel like its right in my face all the time... and the display, while functional, is just so dated and boring... and I hate the volume/mute combo as well...you end up taking your eyes off the road to look up at the stupid knob to see if the volume went up or down...not exactly a safe design. Valentine needs to hire one of Apple's industrial design engineers and totally redesign the shell/display on this dinosaur. For $400 bucks I expect the best in technology AND design.
