Someone told me last night that the fin is for satellite radio, I believe this may be correct.

Get on the forums and look around for the fix. You can remove the fin and relocate the antenna to the hatshelf or front dash (windscreen).

Yeah? Good to know. I'm sure by time I get my E92 there will people who have done it.

People do it on the 335 Defensor?

Another thought would be to swap the current piece for the Vert which has a smaller profile than the coupes. Here's a pic of what I'm referring to on a 1-series:

fin has antennas for BMW assist, cell dock, Sat radio, and possibly diversity AM/FM integrated in it.

Sirius/Assist, yes. Not many US vehicles use a phone cradle since BMW is a bit slow with cellphone releases and favor BT instead.

AM/FM use the rear window defroster lines for reception.
