I like the lux package. In fact, that was one of the main decision maker for buying this car oh so many years ago. Number of doors being second. And color being third.

On my E30 M3, the interior was nice, don't get me wrong, but it was not what I, or any of my passengers ever considered "BMW". It just did not compare in terms of 'style' to the 2 other cars I was looking at. A MB 190 16v, and the Corvette.

Since my first BMW, I have always thought of the brand as 'sport' first, 'luxury and style', second. I thought I found both in the E36 M3 with the lux package. To this day the wood is still perfect, and the seats not cracked.

Don't get the suxury M... this is a SPORTS car not your grandpa's caddy. My alpine came with cruise, power vaders, armrest and fancy OBC without all the ghey frills associated with the lux. At the end of the day the non lux just stays truer to BMW M form.

To this I agree and disagree.

BMW is a company that's name is synonymous with luxury. to say any bmw shouldn't be luxurious is silly. I do agree that the non-lux M's have more appeal to me, but the M stands for Motorsport. The motor's are identical. the suspension is identical and they drive the same. they DO carry the "M" name, and although the luxury package is not my style I don't have any problem with them.

I don't recall saying anywhere that BMW's shouldn't be luxurious nor do I have a problem with them being so... That being said, BMW is a name that should be synonymous with smooth revving and balanced MOTORS, not luxury (Bavarian Motor Werks) especially anything produced by the M division. That's why I believe that M cars should be focused on performance and not luxury. If you're looking for luxury maybe the E36 M3 isn't your best bet, but to each his own.

I don't understand your reasoning. The Lux package M3 IS focused on performance. the engines are IDENTICAL, they also just added a little more class. I don't get why this is a problem to so many people. hah, I don't like the lux that much, but I have no problem with it.

To the OP if you want the M with the least amount of options and the most badas.s M possible I would go for the non lux w/o a sunroof. That would have been either the cheapest original owner or a person that wanted an options deleted version.

Dude, I couldn't have said it better!

On the old 96'er(do any of you remember the old 96'er?) that I'm looking at, it's the Lux package. It's got the slats, the lux seats with power, but no heat, chrome handles, it actually has a rear fin that was factory as the rear decklid has no brake-light, contours, sunroof, and cruise control. The side skirts are the lux models, but I suspect that they can be changed. And it also has the wood interior.

Now, for a question about pricing and what you all think. The car has 126k miles. It's got a Dinan long tube intake. The freaking seller took the fan and clutch off, but he has them and they will come with the car. It also comes with a Bavarian Autosport tuner for the car. I'm going to do some checking on the tuner on here to see what people think, but if some want to respond to it in this thread, I'd love to hear what you think!

At any rate, the tires are shot and need to be replaced. The sales price is right at $8k, but I'm cheap and shrewd and I'm thinking about offering $7250 for the car. I mean, I've got to get some new Michelin's for the car, right? It's a cosmos and pictures can be seen here: http://s414.photobucket.com/albums/pp225/tofty17/
The one picture shows sport skirts, but the seller definitely took pics of another car. On the front bumper, I looked and the chipping truly doesn't look as bad as the picture shows. Sometimes pictures just make shiit look twice as bad as it really is, and this is one of them.

At any rate, thanks all for the information. I'm thinking that this 96 model is right.

Oh, and what would you all think if I were to take the contours and have them powder-coated black to match the car, and then tint the windows and voila, a stealth bomber. I'd have to get a license plate that read DAMSTR8!!!

And sorry for taking so long to get back on this thread, I was actually out fishing(imagine that!) today with my wife...

Nice to hear from the Lux Representa himself!

Yeah, I'm thinking that this 96'er will be the one. I've got an appointment to go look the car over extremely closely tomorrow. I'll basically be doing a full inspection on the underside of the car, along with a thorough inspection of the engine and fluids, and ensuring that everything functions as normal on the car.
Oh, and yeah, I'm going to make sure the cruise control works. On a car like this, I want to make damn sure it does because I don't want to get caught doing 80 in a 60 because the car just wants to go...

Oh, and
