Well, ho do i know if my wheel bearings need to be changed?
When driving, if i have the music down it sounds kind of like i have truck tires on, almost like i can here and very slightly sometimes feel the vibrations from them. Lately from the back when i turn the wheel a little bit i hear a loud ticking coming from the back wheel... Are those my wheel bearings? are there any DIY's? I did a search and was unsuccessful |

The best way I know of to check them is first do a visual inspection looking for any grease seeping out or metal shavings in the area as these are a good indication of a problem. second ifyou see no such issues put the wheel back on and rotate it slowly by hand and see how it feels. Does it spin freely with a little drag? Or do you feel any roughness or chopiness as you spin it? If so then its toast. As for a DIY sorry I don't know.

Front wheel bearings are pretty easy to check. Jack up the front of the car and spin the left and right wheels. If one makes more noise than the other, it's probably a bad wheel bearing. (They should be pretty much silent, although it's impossible to rule out caliper rubbing without actually removing the caliper. If you take the caliper off, ANY noise when you spin it means the wheel bearing is bad.)

In my experience, when wheel bearings go they make a high pitched constant squeek. The squeek will change pitch or go away altogether when the car is loaded to one side or the other when cornering.

When will they learn that the left lane is for passing only?

My wheels are quiet on a straight drive but when a turn kicks in I hear that truck tire sound. The harder the turn, the louder the truck tire sound. Is this any indication of a wheel bearing issue given that I don't hear the high pitched squeal?

My symptoms of a bad LR bearing were similar to Jaciuro's, except that it would do it in only one direction. It was more of a low-pitched humming sound than high pitched, like a mud tire at that corner. Replaced it and it's cured.

Of the 9 bad wheel bearings I have had, only one of them was apparent through that test.
