Default Pls help in Africa : Vanos

Hi Guys
Pls help I drive a 1997 BMW M3 , E36, the 3.2 litre
I recently had a problem with the car where the fuel pump needed to be replaced , after replacing it the mechanic involved advised when he placed it on the diagnostic it showed as the Vanos system was not working , after investigation he found out that the whole Vanos control unit was taken off the car . I need to know is it possible to get a good aftermarket Control Unit – Would I be able to get the whole unit , and any ideas why this would have been removed . I been told that it has the Double Vanos system , the car definitely has a power lag

The double VANOS on the S50B32 (the engine you have) is expensive and complex and is prone to failures. If you can get your old, broken VANOS back, you can send it to Dr. Vanos (http://www.drvanos.com/euro_m3.htm) for $350 + a $700 core charge (he'll refund the core when he gets your VANOS).

Basically he will send you a VANOS that he has fixed and refurbished for $1050 total, and when he gets your broken VANOS back he will refund you $700. If you don't have a VANOS to give him I suspect he will charge you $1050 for a refurbished VANOS.

I have heard excellent things about his work from many US E36 M3 owners who have sent their single VANOS to him for refurbishing (our VANOS units will sometimes develop a bad rattle and loss of power).

Best of luck.
