Click on the Health tab and it should show it. Mind you that if the Windows drivers support it.

Alright. That's never perfect but at least it passed. Just keep an eye on stuff if it starts running slow like that again you'll probably want to replace the hard drive. Once you get one bad block it can spread like wildfire.

Donks, what would you say is the average lifespan of a laptop is before components start breaking down?

It depends on how well you take care of it. If you drop it or throw it around a lot the hard drive probably won't last very long. If you are careful with it then normally 3-5 years before you see a failure of something. The hard drive or optical drive will go first because of the moving parts. You might also have a fan fail. However, even that's not guaranteed as I have a Toshiba that is 8 years old and the hard drive still is fine. But I always took care of it.

I've seen a lot of issues in the past couple years with some HPs and Lenovo's having a number of hard drive failure issues. I have to believe it's due to the user and in some cases the heat because of the placement of the components.

so are the only things to go wrong are the cooling fans and the AC power plug was finicky... but both were replaced under warranty...

My laptop is now 3.5 years old and I've taken pretty good care of it... most of the time its a desktop replacement... But I am aware that it may soon need to be replaced cause of its age.
