Default Subframe Foam Fix info and suggestion needed for TMS KIT

BMW decided to apply the subframe foam fix.

FYI, i got the current SIB in hand and have all the current part/number necessary for the foam fix. These P/N can be found/bought from tisher too. This SIB cannot be found on the TIS software.

Question
1) Should i add the TMS kit (epoxy method to the subframe fix)
2) Has anybody had further subframe mount failure with the foam fix?
3) Possibility of the crack growing again after the FOAM fix ?

----------------------------

Update

SIB INFO
NEWest SIB for subframe foam FIX
- UPdate FEB 2009 SIB41 04 08 (not available in TIS)

Note on repair
- Crack must not exceed 20MM for the Foam repair
Quote
"The following Procedure apply only to cracks at or around the left rear mounting point for the rear axle carrier"

Parts needed
83190445721 - Structural foam pack (includes 2 cartridge pack, enough for one vehicle)
51711906001 - Body Plug - 10mm
07147127539 - Body Plug - 12mm
Locally sourced - 3/8" clear plastic tube ( approx 10" needed)
Art #08901003 - Wurth AdhesiveFlex Seam Sealer ( For more info refer www.wurthusa.com)

The recommended applicator for the structural foam is the MIXPAC pneumatic applicator; model number DP400-85-01. This applicator may be contained from Conveniently PAckaged Adhesives (CPA) : website : www.forcpa.com

------------

The procedure is the same as the old SIB except for extra wording ,formating and P/N on the FEb 2009 SIB. I will still scan them tomorrow.

1) I wouldn't bother with it
3) The crack shouldn't continue to grow if the repair is done properly.

Could you please post the SIB and part numbers?

I will be going in for the TMS sub-frame reinforcement, which I will then follow with injecting the foam as well.

Thanks!

Chris

i've always wondered if there are people out there who've done both the foam & the kit...

Well soon, you'll have to wonder no more

I figure since i'm only going to be pushing more and more power...no harm in reinforcing to the max

Since the crack is small (1.3 cm), they are going to fix the subframe mount with the foam method. Apparently, they will not be welding the crack but just leaving it as is.

Ditto on posting and or sending the SIB and P/N info on the structural foam fix. I too would like to do this as a preventative action without all the cutting, welding, painting, disassembly/assembly that the Turner kit requires.

I'm rather surprised that this foam fix has not gotten more interest and attention, particularly as preventative maintenance, or even that some vendor hasn't come up with their own foam kit (big hint, hint vendors...)
