Talking This forum just saved me $1,675

Just wanted to let you guys know that this forum literally saved me $1,675.
I had put in an order at the end of March for a 2009 M3 Sedan, and negotiated the edmunds.com TMV as the final sales price. (This was - you guessed it - $1,675 above invoice.)
However, reading a few of the posts here it seemed like a lot of guys were getting close to, or at invoice sales prices. So I did a little extra sleuthing around and found that indeed, there was a dealer in the area willing to sell at invoice.
Using this information I went back to the dealer and got him to lower the sales price on the vehicle (which is three weeks into the build order) to invoice or I said I would walk away from the deal. He was pissed, but agreed to it so as "not to be stuck with a $71,000 car".
What I can't believe however was that he had the audacity to tell me that what I was doing wasn't fair or moral. I replied by saying that, "neither is charging people above MSRP when times are good. I'm going to sleep very well tonight."
Ultimately though I will be taking delivery of the car in about 4 weeks - and I'm absolutely pumped that this web site has helped.

The edmunds.com TMV was already 3K under MSRP (which was what made me think it was an okay deal in the first place.)

Not the nicest way to go about the situation, but im glad you got your deal. Try not to burn bridges though, because you kinda just blackmailed the dealer into a cheaper price. Doing it from the beginning will be a much better way to go about the situation

But then again stealerships deserve some of their own medicine every so often

Yep. I get your point rave426. I feel a tinge of guilt. But then again, it may just be gas.

bravo! you're exercising your capitalistic rights; the system is built on free market where businesses compete with each other to provide the best product for the lowest price. your salesman has probably met his end of the month quota and received bonuses from both the manufacture and dealer on the '09s. congrats

$5 says you are back here posting about lousy service from the same dealership you just hosed out of $1,675 after you shook on a deal.

Just a guess.

just a guess, but msrp has about $5k - $6k profit in it. So he's complaining about not getting an extra 1.6k. I would sleep very well if i were you. and service it at another dealership, if the salesman is going to take it to that level.
