Question How to practice high-speed oversteer?

Is there a special track or skidpad around the north east (or anywhere) that would allow for practicing high-speed oversteer - i.e. HUGE runoff areas on high-speed turns? I feel this is the one area where I have very little experience, and it's obviously not something I would want to try to practice at a normal track. I remember seeing a special on TV one time about such a track in Europe somewhere, it had massive paved runoff on every single turn with a special pavement that was more gritty to slow you down if you went off.

Maybe a drifting event would be helpful as well? Thoughts? What are the differences between a high-speed and low-speed oversteer situation, if any? I can hold myself sideways around a skidpad indefinitely, but I've never really had to manage big oversteer over maybe 30-40mph...

Maybe try to find an expansive parking lot without poles, go as fast as u can, and put yourself sideways and see what happens.

Good point Phil. I can't think of any place setup as you described. I too would love to find a place to practice this in a safe controlled way so as to be better prepared if and when this occurs to me on a track. How big is your driveway?

Any abandoned air fields in your area?

Good idea, I'll have to look into that. I don't think they would be wide enough but if they had two parallel runways with joining pavement you could do some big drifts Top Gear style. Probably some problems with renting/gaining access to them though, still interested in 'sponsored' events.

E-Town Raceway has drift events. I don't know what their schedule is this year or if you wanna drive over to Jersey though.

Remember the video of Ken Block practicing Gymkhana? It looked like that was an abandoned airfield and he seemed to have plenty of space for that first sweeper which looked pretty fast. That being said, it also looked like you could be eating some weeds if you ran off the tarmac.

I've also always wondered how to practice this. I've been considering some drift events because it's the closest thing I can think of.
