For the E92 haters.......

I have no beef with the E92 and I have never suggested that the E46 is better in performance. My situation is that the E46 M3 is the first car I've owned where handling is more of a strength than drag strip performance, and I like it a lot. It's hard for me to justify making the jump right now when everything is pointing to the next M3 going back to being a lighter/smaller car, which is way more desirable to me. The E46 has been such a great experience (and still is) that I just don't feel pressed to upgrade now when I can almost guarantee the next gen will be closer to exactly what I want.

Saw the 4 door in person (everyday if I want as someone at my work has one) and I like its meatiness. Seems to have much more of an a$$ going on than the 2 door.

But when I've been to meets, and I look at the E46 next to the E9X, I am still liking the styling Q's of the E46 much better... I have yet to be swayed. I seem to lean more towards older stylings in general, though, whether I've owned that car or not... I try not to be biased. Performance-wise. Yes, it's a beast... The ///M's performance prowess has grown throughout the years, as expected..

+1 i keep swaying i always say i like the E46 better but seeing that 4 door makes me cringe a little and seeing what people are doing with the E9* i like.

i've been sold since they came out. Though red or brown leather would have been ideal

I understand the points made and I also agree with Hal that a smaller/lighter M3 sounds fantastic. However, turbos do not.

For me, I have a sad feeling that I'll want the S65 in the next M3's body and it will be a compromise between the smaller/lighter M3 body I want and the engine I want.

I need to just get the Euro motor and 6 speed put in my E36 and I can be done with it.

Is no one else bothered by the fact that BMW couldn't even bother to hide the exhaust pipes on the back? It never used to bother me, but now I see it's quite noticeable compared to most other cars on the road, and no one really wants to see your rust from the inside

because it serves a purpose.. for aerodynamics...
