2003 Land Rover Discovery, they can be had cheap. Everything was updated in 03.

Good for dogs and hauling stuff, and ski trips. Excellent in snow.

Knock on wood, 2.5 years of trouble free ownership.

I am an enormous Corrado ho. Gorgeous

I drove my M3 two winters ago throughout a heavy Boulder winter, on summer tires. Would never do it again, but I survived without any damage save for curbed rims (never hit a curb, but getting stuck in snow/ice took finish off). If I have to drive it in snow again, I'll get some snow tires and be set. Hoping I won't need to drive it in snow again however, just to keep wear off of it.

Drive the 530 with a set of snows. Haven't had a bad winter in DC area last couple of years.

If it ever was really bad would take my wife's FX35 AWD -- very fun SUV to drive.

It is not a question of being able to afford it. I like some variety. I love em both like my children, but one is better at the winter. I have no doubt which one is more confidence inspiring when hitting a slush puddle at 80 MPH. It's a Canadian thing. I seek bad winter weather from December till the Gods bring us warmth....right about now. My other winter beast is the Family MDX on 4 Pirelli Scorpions. The best winter vehicles I have ever had were 95 and 05 Subaru Legacy's on Good Winter Rubber. So much more capable than any truck or SUV in bad weather. My M3 is virgin when it comes to salt exposure .

Wouldn't having another car for the winter actually be more expensive than just having the e36...?

Anyway, I'm currently looking at winter beater/haulers for ski trips and NH weather. I'm thinking a subaru outback wagon would fit the bill nicely. AWD, tons of room, little efficient engine, alot of them are MT, and I can pick one up for the price of a set of bavauto snow tire/wheels!
