I know first hand, it absolutely can effect the structural integrity of the wheels...

I have been waiting over 2 months now for the custom wheels I ordered. They are an extremely lightweight, forged wheel that I chose in a gloss black, requiring powdercoating by the wheel manufacturer. Well, they had yet to do the wheel in a gloss black, in the 19" size, and what they discovered upon the baking process is that all 4 wheels were essentially destroyed... I had to start over, and they have to use a different company and a different process for p-coating these wheels...

However, I had my M6 reps powdercoated black and the structural integrity of the wheel was not damaged AT ALL... Much of it depends on the materials used to make the wheel, as well as the process for powdercoating. PCoating companies must be very careful when doing a forged wheel...

I was gonna powdercoat my Volks, however it was easier to just have them painted. Plus if the wheels get damaged, it easy to have them touched up.

I would recommend to not powdercoat your wheels if they are not done in the factory

Sorry to hear about your wheel

LOL @ everyone questioning the wheel strength though. If you impact a pothole, curb, cement chunk, etc.. at a high rate of speed any wheel will typically bend/crack given the force is strong enough. I've bent a couple very high end forged wheels, sucks but not much you can do if you don't see a pothole coming or there's unexpected debri on the road.

In case anybody cared (probably not LOL)...

Both inner and outer barrels have to be replaced and the center section required a little tweaking to get it back in spec.

$700 out the door.

Moral of the story: Don't hit stuff with your wheelz.

Good news is it should be here in time to mount new tires for Aug 19th track day.

I cared!

Well at least you're back on the road again. You're obviously not to happy with the price, but they're gorgeous wheels so, glad everything got worked out!

I'd only REALLY be happy if it was free so I'd whine about it no matter what it cost. The price isn't horribly expensive but it definitely ain't cheap. I'm glad I don't have to replace the wheel entirely.

Car looks a little funny with one OE wheel. It'll be nice to have a matching set again.

You will get nowhere.

Unless the State of Utah put the debris in the road, they are not liable for failing to see and thereby remove it.

Sorry.

I love this country. We are behind on everything and every country except making the best bombs to kill people that are gathered for a wedding....
