A diff shop should know what specs to set it up with as a diff is a diff is a diff. Nothing special about a BMW diff. Two gears meshing is two gears meshing. Bearing preload is bearing preload.

Find a different shop, perhaps?

I get 8% difference to the 4.1. The 3.91 is 8% different to the 3.62 and people routinely say it's not worth it.

Give Advanced Driveline here in Orlando a call ..407-299-1100 ....they do top notch work and i have had alot of custom work done by them ...I plan on having them do my gearing when my e46 comes in ...

Interesting reading. I have taken my time to soak up all the information and opinions in this thread.

0.2-0.3 in the 1/4 mile to me is a "big" improvement.

I have read differing opinions on trap speeds. Will the trap speed be higher with the 4.1. I would have thought so but would like confirmation.

Will the 4.1 accelerate harder & faster 100-150 than stock?
