What part of a whiny, butthurt post like yours is intended to be educational? It is the definition of a hate post. The only way you could have made it more archetypal would have required you to say he would 'loose' power.

"Congrats, you are a dumbass" is not the same thing as imparting mature, life earned lessons. If that is the shape it takes in your household, I suspect your kids will have some problems. For the record, I think your point is a correct one. The loss of mid-range torque should not be ignored (I never modified the stock intake on my 98 Cobra due to this issue), my gripe is entirely with your approach. /hijack.

Yikes. Kids? What about my momma?

Glad we agree.

Made me think of Little Enos Burdette from Smokey & the Bandit. Of course now you realize you've given the perfect setup for "Your momma is so..."

Buy a kit (whether it be Eric's, the Eurosport or the Bimmerworld) is totally worth it, especially Eric's kit seeing as it's the cheapest. You definitely don't want to be trying to fabricate vacuum piping, finding hoses and connectors that are fuel/oil resistant and will hold up to the negative pressure of the vacuum involved, piecing things together, making measurements, etc. Then after you're done, bolting it all back together and praying you don't have to take it apart all over again because of some unforseen problem with the design of your modification.

Just spend the money on a kit. It's been researched, and implemented over and over again and you know you won't have issues as long as it's been installed correctly.

And without adding fuel to the fire...drive an M50 modded car before you put the manifold in yours. It's not for everyone. Like any mod, there are pros and cons. If it was all pros, the car would've come like that from the factory.
I went ahead and got the kit for the 195 that has all the new seals and the assembled hose. So from now forward, it all finders crossed! I dont know anyone near me with an m50'd s52 unfortunately....

Is it really THAT big of a difference?

Honestly not trying to turn this into a debate, which is why I refrained from responding again earlier but IME no. I'm not saying there isn't a difference and I'm not saying it is necessary for everyone, nothing is necessary, the M3 is a great car stock, hell you don't even need an M3 and if you don't redline, I'm not sure why you bought one... but moving on.

When I drove one, that only mod the owner had was an ASC delete and an m50 mani; it was completely stock otherwise. I didn't really notice much difference, not just in trq loss but also in gain. I did feel a bit faster but the biggest difference for me was when I looked down and saw the spedo I was surprised at how fast I was going. That's when, for me, i realized that it was IMO a bit faster.

EDIT: When you say you got the kit for 195, you got Eric's kit from M50manifold.com right?

yes... with no fuel rail cover, or manifold.. JUST the parts required to make it work

Yep, just making sure. I think that's what I will be doing. I'm unclear about fuel rail cover. Can I just widen the sides and ad a washer to make it fit or is there something I'm missing?

the m50 fuel rail cover will work but it sits too high especially if you have a front strut brace.. you need to actually cut out some of the spacer in the fuel rail cover, not add more...

oh ok I was thinking of modifying s52 cover is the going with the m50 easier? I doubt I could ever get the finish on the edges as good as the original...
