Default Re: rear subframe reinforcement...

Interesting Read.

So the remaining question a few years on is: Can a good weld/prep def not cause corrosion on the inside?

Will Epoxy hold up to the heat cycles/water ingress over time?

Has the actual cause of the failure been determined? My understanding (based on reading the internet admittedly) is that 1. flex in the subframe overstresses the floor which leads to fatigue cracking, especially in areas which are weak such as bends in the metal. 2. Poorly designed bushes overstress spot welds around the mounts and threaded sleeve. 3. Torsional twist from the diff causes the front right and rear left to ware most.

So a quick question. As a lot of the floor cracks are away from the mounting face (and so not covered my a plate), such as ones above the sway bar mount, and up near the spring mount. Will adding a plate actually reduces the stresses in these areas?

Is a structural foam within the subframe sufficient to reduce flex and prvent this problem from occuring?
