All bushings except the actual subframe bushings I replaced in my garage. Had to take the subframe and new bushings to a machine shop to have them replaced. Broke my cheap Harbor Freight press trying to replace them....

I'm sorry to go back to the question but before doing this I want to be very clear:

Did you use the 420mL BMW foam packs or the 220 ones?

It's unfortunate that the subframe bushings aren't easy to change. I'd like to DIY that but I guess it's not really doable.

Thanks!

I don't remember. They fit the tool from Grainger that had the "5" in it. 400ml?
If you do it yourself, don't forget to plug the hole down on the bottom of the subframe by the rear mount....
You can DIY the subframe bushings if you have patience, a good drill and/or Sawzall..... Getting them out is doable - getting them back in is a ************.

The "5" tool is the 420ml one, so I'll have to use 4 packs of that to do both sides.

Can you describe where that hole is? I was planning on just injecting from the top and ignoring those holes as I don't know where they are.

Thanks!

Guess I need to get another "kit". I purchased my 2 - 420ml cartridge packs from someone who bought 4 but could only inject one per side before the foam started pouring out of the hole. Another guy reports the same thing. Now this guy reports he got 2 into a side and then a BMW master tech says you absolutely need 2 per side. I wonder why the results are varying like this? Different types of seam sealers being used?

Went ahead and ordered another kit to be safe. If I don't use it I figure I can sell it and get most of the money back. Also ordered the Wurth Adhesiveflex seam sealer. Will probably be doing the work this weekend if the parts get here.

How are you planning on plugging the hole that's underneath?

I already have the reinforcement plates welded on there.

Ok. I haven't seen that hole while snooping around. I guess I'll have to try harder.

If you could take some pics of the foam DIY I would appreciate it, even if it's only 5-6. I'd like to get a better idea of where we're doing what, especially as we're doing both sides.

Thanks!

You might not have that hole. The TIS specifically says "if" it is present, then plug it, which implies some models don't have it.

Also if I recall correctly the M3 has a different subframe floor than the standard coupe (which is the example used in the TIS), so I'm starting to think some of these guys reporting they could only get 1 - 420ml kit into each side are correct (at least in their case). Also there is the rumor that coupe started getting the vert floor at some point. These variations may explain why some are only able to get 1 cartridge injected per side.

Looks like I won't be doing the work this weekend. The place I ordered the Wurth seam sealer from doesn't have it, they just haven't updated their site. So I ordered it from the ebay.uk link. I got an email that is has shipped but I suspect it will take a week or so to get to Atlanta.

I will document the process. I think the most important thing will be keeping the cartridges up to temp so that they flow easily.

Looking forward to your writeup, drunk_hal! I already have the Wurth foam from ebay, but I need to order the structure foam kit(s) from thebmwpartstore.com (I have 330ci).
