Agree. People also forget the original 914 was a huge success, and during its run outsold all other P-cars combined. And unlike the folks in Munich, when Porsche makes something I hate (Cayenne), they keep making the things I love better (GT3). Whatever allows them to keep producing light, focused cars... can't wait to see this model in production.

Not really.

Let's say the loss of brand equity depreciates sales of their top end cars by 10% - that's $10 to $15 grand net coming out of their pockets for each model sold. What would they pocket on an entry level car? $3 to 5k? so they have to outsell the 911's by 3 to 5x in order to just make up for the lost sales due to depreciated brand equity.
Pff, complete speculation with made up numbers - demonstrates nothing that isn't obvious. And there are a hundred other reasons aside from the elusive "brand equity" that matter here.

While we're speculating based on nothing more than the desire to arrive at predetermined outcomes, let's say the gain of brand equity appreciates sales of their top end cars by, say... 1,015% -- the baby Porsche could provide an entry point into well-made driver's cars for the people who cannot currently afford them (i.e., the gross majority of us), and this action would transform people who would have had zero exposure to the brand into loyal-for-life Porsche customers.

Conjecture: It's not just for breakfast anymore.

well, except there's one problem with your approach.

Exclusivity is possibly the most effective element in driving brand equity and sales. Your logic is converse to this because a low end Porsche reduces that exclusivity.

People will still know the difference in exclusivity of a Boxter and a GT2

Just like people still know the difference between an Audi A1 (or even smaller A2 available in germany) compared to an A8

Can I be the first to say 'bollocks'?

The most valuable brand in the world is Coca Cola, which is not particularly exclusive......

Numbers 2-5 Microsoft, IBM, GE and Intel - none of these trade on exclusivity.

Try again.
