I was driving my E36 M3 around yesterday. I had the clutch engaged, but then out of nowhere it sounded like the clutch went out. As it made this sound, it engaged slightly. However, I can still use the clutch. It feels like it engages a little lower than usual. But the weird thing is, my clutch pedal is popped out, it's up as high as it goes. It sits about 4" above my brake pedal. It's extremely weird, nothing like this has ever happened to me before.

The pivot point at the top of the pedal is a known failure item. You can source a new bushing. Also a new pedal. I used Ron Stygar's delrin bushing and pedal kit. UUC sells a bushing kit also. I would guess this failure, rather than slave cylinder or return spring, but let us know what you find.

I got under there and it was the master cylinder. The return spring was dislocated, and plastic coupler on the master cylinder was also broken.
I've ordered another master cylinder from partsgeek.com at a great price. Thanks for the responses guys... ![]()

Urgh I think this just happened to me today. I'm not at home so I can't even have a proper look at what's going on in there. Frustrating. A whole master cylinder replacement?? I only ever did that on the Miata when my engagement completely shagged up but it seems that it's a pretty different kettle of fish on this car.
