It's really all personal preference when it comes down to it... If people all just liked one muffler, then the other companies probably would be making theirs.

My personal preference if money isn't an issue is the Eisenmann LeMans, but if money comes into play, the Rogue El Diablo is great w/ headers, or the El Diablo Track edition w/o headers is amazing to start

e46 m3 exaust = none I'm afraid. stock is best.
new m3 = most aftermarkets are awesome.
