Nitrous is rarely used on the S54, which probably explains the lack of reply's to your thread. fwiw.

Nitrous rarely used on S54???? That sh$t is funny! The S54 is the perfect engine for nitrous...and many many people use nitrous on M3's. To the OP....your S54 engine has a forged crank and an iron block. If your boosting with a SC or turbo and using Nitrous, I would consider forged pistons and rods. If you set up your system properly, you won't have any problems! The worst thing you can do, is go lean. The reason your not getting many responses to your question is not because lack of use it's because people are having success. Anyone who did fry pistons or broke rods, probably won't admit it because they were stupid and know it. I'll include a description of my setup below.

http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...893&highlight=

I have a ZEX wet 75 shot with 10lb bottle, ZEX remote bottle opener, ZEX bottle heater, ZEX traction control...which allows what rpm and gear for activation as well as max rpm nitrous shut off. I have a dual ZEX purge kit with red led lights. The purge allows you to purge air through the line so that activation occurs with pure nitrous. Race comp AFR and nitrous guage which I feel are very important. ZEX nitrous systems will automatically adjust fuel ratio depending on what the bottle psi is. The bottle heater is critical for maintaining at least 900 psi for a more dramatic nitrous punch! On my switch panel, the red push button is the purge, the blue guard switch is bottle heater, the red guard switch is the nitrous arm, and the window type switch is to open my nitrous bottle remotely from the comfort of my seat. It's not a perfect looking setup, but I think it looks nice. I had the work done professionally with custom install of switch panel and guages out the door after taxes for $2700. A little expensive for a nitrous setup....but you can easily spend more buy the way nitrous and superchargers compliment each other nicely. Nitrous dramatically cools the intake charge during hot summer months and superchargers love cold weather when nitrous bottles are difficult to heat to optimum psi

EDIT: Reread my post and saw if could be taken as a dig on fr8tdog. Not trying to be a dick, just adding some info. No offense meant to anyone. Mike

It's not air, it's gaseous nitrous. Happens as your line heats up causing the liquid nitrous to flash to gas. One reason you want your line run away from any heat source, as much as practical.

Remember that the AFR you are seeing is an average of only three cylinders. This assumes you have your AFR meter hooked up to only one bank (as most do). One may be very lean and one may be very rich..... and the other three you have no clue. EQUAL distribution is key - which is very hard to get with a single fogger system. Small shots not that great an issue but as you go higher, beware.

Maybe my ignorance here, but unless your AFR detector/meter provides an input to the ZEX box, you are only getting an educated guess based on bottle pressure. Also see above for other three cylinders.

Remember that "dramatic" punch is hard on drivetrain components. Also remember the higher the pressure the leaner your car will run. Tuning is the key to having fun without forking over big $$$$ for a small mistake.

Have fun.
