I just bought a e46 M3 where the trunk cannot be open with the button in car or on the key. The only way to open the trunk is to use the key physically.
Anyone encountered the same problem? Any source I can look into to try to fix this myself before taking it to a BMW dealer?

Hey, had the same issue. You can replace the rubber trunk stops with some ejector types. Bavarian Autosport has them, they're very common.
Part# 51-24-8-137-994 "Buffer Stop With Ejector" for my trunk lid. They are listed as $7.95ea Fixed my problem instantly, seems it's a pretty common issue. |

i saw what you said in the other thread, but it seems like nothing is happening when i press the button.
I tried to apply upward pressure, but nothing happens. It feels more like the locking mechanism to me ... maybe its the wiring issue the other guy was saying before. I want to get to the bottom of this soon though, because having to shut off the engine to release trunk is a pain.
