Honestly the 335i (along with the S4) is probably top 10 all around cars in the world and the only thing to argue about it is the lack of an LSD. It does everything VERY well. The number one car is the M3.

Fact.

Decreased steering feel, not just less torque (which I think is not an issue), but a heavier feel to everything, including the throttle. It can be described as pretty pedestrian at lower speeds and revs.

That's how it's designed, as more of a GT now.
The car isnt meant to be raw anymore. I dont think the e46 m3 was either. I think it was raw-er than the competitors, but not raw as a stand alone characteristic.

I dont think theres a huge difference even with the MDM. the car only feels racy when you are at 6K rpms and above and it doesnt have the high end thrust of some other engines out there either. Its good, if you like more comfort than you do pure driving experience, but it is an even greater progression away from being a sports car than the e46 m3 was.

I hate that you need the Nav to get the M button BTW. What's that all about?

Funny enough while at the Dr.'s office just now he had an old issue of Car and Driver (bad mag I know) sitting there and under the M3 in the back was "Quite possibly the best car in the world". As we all know, Road and Track made a similar statement, so has Top Gear, as have other publications either in print or online.

If you don't like it so be it - but saying it has vague steering feel as a reason it's not an amazing car is just Who's the fanboy again?

Face it - the car is as fast as a 911 (if not faster than a standard Carrera) while seating 4 with a full trunk and being usable everyday. And among it's so called peers (RS4, C63, IS-F) it's beaten all of them.

By that they mean "overall" car, which necessarily suggests compromises, which it has all over the place.

Where did Rave or anyone else suggest otherwise that we're not talking about the best overall car? Nobody ever said it's the fastest, or best looking, or most comfortable, etc....

But when you take in ALL factors in a car (which is what Rave said) very, very few do them in a package as well as the M3. That's been stated for a long time now with M3s and the E92 is no exception. In fact as you well know it's the most comfortable and fastest M3 yet.

Has it lost some of the raw feeling? Of course it has. The same can be said of the E46 and the E36 before it from the E30. It's called evolution.

If you want a more raw car then get an Exige or something of that nature. But saying it's not as raw of a car as the E46 (which is laughable to begin with) is just for putting the car down.

Oh and as for it having compromises all over the place - name a car that doesn't!

Let's see - you want a raw car. Cool get an Exige. Now take your family out for a drive, take it on a long road trip, use it for picking things up from the store, etc.... In fact, try to do nearly ANYTHING with it except for driving it just to drive it and it fails miserably.

Well they are insane. I drove an Exige for 30 mins and forgot I was in a street legal car. I'd rather kick a doberman than ride in that thing for 3 hours.
