Default 3rd gear pops out

My problem is with 3rd gear, once in a while when im coming to a stop in third gear as my rpms start to drop under 2000 it'll just pop out of third gear, i was thinking it might be my shifting seeing as how i started manual on my m3 no to long ago,

Any advice guys?

this issue might be due to bad transmission or engine mounts. As the RPM drops, your transmission is shifting from its location causing the gear to pop out. Others will say your synchros are shot, but I would try new mounts first.

The most hopeful cause is the shift linkage cup, do a search, many posts on this. If you don't fix this soon, you will damage the gear, as it likely isn't fully engaging to begin with.

i notice if i concentrate on puting the shifter in right and firmly it dosent happen and not to long ago i had the little ring that holds the shifter in place replaced and it started happening from then. I was watching the mechanic he had a hard time getting the thing out to replace the ring i think he may have damaged this cup your talking about, what do the rest of you think or am i just hoping for a cheep fix that isn't true, any ideas at what this would cost to fix at the dealer
