okay i have my car at jc autobody in houston,tx. they barely gettting started with my car and have all the stuff i want on the car itself. okay i get a call this morning saying that my vorsteiner cf roof is cracked. i distinctly remember when i got it back in june or july and it was looking awesome. so my question is what should i do? try to see if they can fix it? the guy at jc suggested me painting the whole cf roof. but i wanted the cf theme and pretty disappointed. ill post pictures when i get back

Sorry to hear that bro. That is really messed up. If they cracked it I would make them replace it. Don't paint over it. Why spend all that money on a carbon fiber roof if you can't show it off. Hope it all works out.

I don't think you'll have an easy time trying to fix a carbon fiber piece... Either make the shop pay for a mistake you believe them to have caused or paint over it, I would strongly pursue the former.

Funny, I was just talking to a body shop who did a carbon fiber hood on an M Coupe, however the fitment was terrible and the piece cracked during installation; they ended up doing a paint job where the cracked part was covered and left some of the carbon fiber still exposed. Personally, I would rather paint over it entirely than try to do a partial design.

you said when you got it, it was in pefect condition. so they must have caused the damage and they are required to pay for it. if i were you i would go over there asap check out the damage and tell them how it is. be a man for christ's sake

At least you'll have a slicktop and the performance benefits of lopping a bunch of weight off the top of the car. I would like to get rid of my sunroof sometime soon...

yeah go there and assess the damages and find out what was the cause. if it was in perfect condition when you drop it off, the shop should be liable.

I would see two problems in this situation:

1) If the roof has been "cracked" while in their possession, then they should be held responsible for a repair or replacement,
2) Since a real crack in carbon fiber is potentially impossible to "repair" I would be extremely hesitant to just "paint over it".

In reality, if the roof is actually cracked/damaged, you need a new one (preferably the shop's responsibility, if they damaged it). Your roof is NOT a place you want a struturally weak component, and cracked carbon fiber definitely qualifies as "weak" depending on the severity of the damage.

is the Vorsteiner piece a full replacement panel (must remove original roof) or is it just a cosmetic piece you add on top of your roof? if its cosmetic i don't see the point of painting it . . .

and if the shop cracked your roof they do not do great work like you said
