I left the H pipe in place ... the x-pipe was a standard piece i've seen it on ebay for under $50 ... but that x pipe is narrower than section 2 ..so it will requie some work and let me tell you the OEM pipes are thick and hard to bend! .. my setup cost me $200

the magnaflow x-pipe is pretty wide, it has pretty steep angles.. I had one on my CTS-V Magnaflow exhaust. From memory its spaced about the same as the stock pipes in sec. 2.

Its a 2.5in, which means it will slide over the stock pipes.

I think the biggest difference would be in the exhaust note.. a x pipe will change the exhaust note because the exhaust banks actually collide into each other.

Personally, I think its kind of a waste of time..

Do you really need both an H-pipe and an X-pipe - I thought they basically achieved the same thing just with different flow through characteristics...

Ok so i had the resonator delete in section 1 done yesterday...i like the sound, all through 2nd and 3rd the rasp is noticeably louder, even in 4th if im pushing the car hard. This is a topic that i have seen discussions on and it almost always ends the same way. Some people LOVE the rasp and want to amplify it, others HATE it and will go to great lengths to silence it....its a 50:50 split

I always loved the subtle rasp, but would only hear at the end of 2nd once i got over 4000 rpm...being that its a vert, you hear it even more with the top down, now that the resonator is gone i get to hear it all through 2nd and 3rd and its louder too. Personal preference i guess.

Great thread though, good info going back and forth.

So what is the bottom line here? Removing the resonator from section1 will introduce more rasp?

That's certainly my experience.
Remove resonator = more rasp.
Add or increase resonator capacity = less rasp.

I had Euro headers/cats with stock section 2, and stock muffler.
Even though section 2 has a small resonator, I definitely had rasp. Not horrible, just the stock euro rasp sound.
I swapped out stock section 2 for a supersprint x-pipe with resonator, so I increased resonator capacity. Result: no rasp.

i never said removing it wont increase rasp.

i said, while researching on the topic, inexperienced people (aka, people who havent done the mod themselves) told me NOT to remove the resonator becuase it will sound like sh*t.. it would sound like a "buzzing bee" or "rasp galore"

however, i went ahead and removed it.. there is a noticeable increase in rasp in certain gears/rpm, but it is not "rasp galore".. just a slight amplification of the rasp, which sounds really good. thats all. thanks
