12/11 - Rear Diffuser Revisited

I retired this piece some time ago. I damaged it pretty badly on a kerb and was generally disappointed with how it made the car feel. I considered going with Varis for a while but before dropping $3k on one I thought it'd be wise to mock it up on what I had.

I spent an afternoon beating out the damage and trimmed 1.5" off the strakes. With 80mm of ground clearance it was near impossible to drive around.

I also cut a series of 1" slots in the OEM diffuser in the hope that I'd relieve the parachuting affect I had previously encountered . Final preparation and paint was entrusted to my painter.

The verdict? The car doesn't feel as bogged down as it did before which so I believe that I have taken a step in the right direction. That said, I am not entirely sold on it. I'll keep it on for a while but I suspect the best diffuser might be none at all.

12/11 - Continental Sport Contact 5P

And finally, I recently picked up a set of Continental Sport Contact 5P tyres to replace my Pirelli Rosso. I was set to purchase a set of Michelin PSS from Tirerack but I was offered these locally at a price too good to pass up.

Like the outgoing Rosso the 5P are the driver's choice and are marketed as performance street tyre and feature a centre band of softer compound rubber like many other tyres in this category.

They took some time scrub in but I am pleased to say that I am very impressed with them compared to the Sport Contact 2 I once had. I am still undecided if they are better overall than the Rosso but they do offer some qualities which I feel that are an improvement.

Turn-in feels much quicker (which I suspect is due to the tapered sidewall) and they offer much greater feedback through the wheel. They are also signifigantly quieter and I have to admit they do ride smoother. They're also a few hundred bucks cheaper than the Pirellis so no complaints in that sense.

Unfortunately for me I don't believe the overall grip offered matches the Rosso. They feel every bit as good for 90% of the time but I feel that the Pirellis still have the edge on these. Maybe I just need to find more confidence in these. They are very forgiving at the limit though.

On the upside I no longer have to worry about stopping in the rain - they pull up signifigantly better in the wet than any other street tyre I've driven. Its still too early to say how long they'll last but I doubt any tyre is worse than Pirelli!

In my opinion they're up there with the best and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend these to anyone who enjoys a solid spirited drive but still needs the practicality of a street tyre. They are a vast improvement over the Sport Contact 2 which I once ran and I still see on here from time to time.

Thanks, I really disliked the mismatch between the rear seat and aftermarket front seats so it had to be done.

I'll be posting professional pics from a shoot we did in a couple of weeks time

I was very excited to see the Turner box arrive the other night, however when you opened the box it smelt oily and stinky

Should be fun
