I appreciate the 'overmodding' comments, but really, if you're keeping this car for a while then I don't see why this should deter anyone. You mod according to your tastes and budget. If he desire it and has the budget, why not? 'Overmodding' is from your perspective, not necessarily his or anyone elses.

And I doubt this mod is really 4-5K. Maybe 4K at the absolute max but even then that's assuming a 2K labor charge since the roof can be had for about $1600.

All this is a drop in the bucket when talking about ferraris, so I don't know where that piece of advice came from...

Did you read my post about spending so much modding a Fiat, that I could have bought a Porsche?

Sure you can do anything you want with your money and car, but there are smarter places to put it than an M3. And remember, the more mods you put on a car, the less desirable it is to a potential buyer down the road.

A decent 308 can cost in the mid 20's, and is as reliable as the M3. Which do you think will hold its value better in 10 years.... or be worth more?

Yeah I read that (really?) but we're talking about ONE mod here. If we wanted to talk about the pathologic modding the OP is destined to get himself into if he were to start modding with this ONE piece, then that's another topic altogether. And if you read my post, you would understand that he may not see spending money on a CF roof as over-modding or a misappropriation of funds. And if he's keeping the car for a while, your argument regarding his car being less desirable upon sale is moot as well. Then again, I don't see how his car would NOT sell to an enthusiast given the nature of this mod, and assuming his car is in great shape at the time of sale. The CF roof, if OEM, might even fetch him a premium upon sale.

Not everyone cares to buy a car for investment purposes, so this ferrari vs. M3 thing, again, is rather ridiculous considering the topic of this thread.

buying the cf roof and freight shipping, paying labor, buying a new headliner and whatever other structural support that you also have to buy.. all this stuff adds up. if you have the $4k to do this, i don't see what's stopping you.. unless that $4k can better serve you for something else.

I know what you mean. I could have bought another GT3 with what I spent on my M3 and I could have bought an RS with what I spent on my GT3.

Where can you buy an OEM roof for that price? One place is selling one for $2200 and that's not shipped. And with the rails, headliner, and insulator, you're looking close to $3000 for parts. Depending on what shop you go, they're $1500-$2000 for labor. I'm doing my homework for a buddy so the pricing is definitely pass 4K.

Be careful man, I've heard a few horror stories. Leaky roofs suck.

I guess that depends on where you get it done. I would look into a shop that has already done it a few times.

That's in pounds. If you convert it to USD, it's around $2200.
