Thanks for the advise folks. I am swaying mostly to M3, it's simply my kind of car, great for everything... I wonder why a lot of people can get so snobby and arrogant about their cars, and than so brutal when you give your opinion..

you simply can not compare german vs us, most M3 owners would not even consider a comparison.

I am not sure what is so special about a GTO. Everyone is talking about buying one lately. Guess I will have to drive one. Based on brand and looks alone the M3 gets my vote.

I was going to buy a GTO at one point, but with the 6.0L, not the 5.7. I drove a 5.7, and having owned a 4th gen F-body years ago, I can say it was a surprise that it really was a nice car for what it is.

I'm sure it by no means can come close to the performance vs quality of an M3. Having not driven the 6.0L I don't know if it's any faster, but the 5.7 did not feel like 350hp. You'd think with the torque available it would feel faster but it didn't. The LS1 motor is much like the M3 motor, it packs power up top, but not much down low. Where my LT1 f-body had loads of low end grunt, so around town stuff was definitely fun.

In a drag race I'd bet they are closer than you think. The M3 coupe is lighter to the point it almost makes up the difference in power.

On the subject of the G8, I raced one last weekend, he did a ***** fly by on me and I went after him. I figured I wouldn't be able to keep up with him, but I was on his rear bumper up to nearly the speed limiter. So the difference wasn't nearly what I thought.

Add in the refinement of the M3 interior and chassis and coolness, I'd say the M3 is a way better car.

It just depends on your goal. The M3 is a better car. However, the GTO is a bargain. i havent looked for one in a while but the LS2 GTO has to be going for under 20k right now. If you are looking for straight line power, V8 engine note, and a hell of a deal, the GTO is the way to go.

I was in the same position comparing gto vs m3..To get a good GTO with low miles it's around the same cost finding an e46 with low miles (low meaning for it's age) 06 gto with like 30k would run you around 25k..yes they'll def be easier to maintain...a lot easier and cheaper to mod...M3 has nice power stock..interior/exterior looks a hell of a lot better than the GTO..if you know anything about cars and mechanics than maintenance and most repairs won't be a problem with a M3...I showed my fiance a GTO and was in relief to see that I didn't get one lol..but also a G8GT is a nice choice (if you're looking for roomy and pretty fast)...G8 looks better than GTO..but ya my pick is the M3

my man, you cant even compare these two cars. The GTO will be cheaper to maintain, but the m3 is better in every other way.

i was tossing between the two aswell! and i went for the m3 for many reasons!!!

most gtos i found are super nice for a gm car but its still built like a gm car! me coming from a 3rd gen accord whichs fit and finish on the interior is still immaculate today had me going crazy over the quality of how it was put together...

and the power ive driven the 6.0 and 5.7 many times and really they dont seem as fast as they say they are i swear my m is quicker i can get sideways with the m before i did in either of the gto's

BUT! one good thing about the gto is that its rated one of the easiest to drift cars in stock form ever! lol

on the other hand though the m3 is addictively pretty inside and out and may cost alot for everything but make sure you find one that has all the records!!!! and people who actually know what the m3 is give you huge respect and stare the **** out of you when you drive by :P i love it
