Congratulations! AWD is definitely a good thing, but RWD is more fun

Congratulations on your new car. You will really like it. The M3 is a great sports sedan, but it is not a sports car in the sense that a 911 is.

That's got to be one of THE worst videos I have seen. Lots of wind noise, most of the cars sound terrible. People jabbering and can't be understood. Maybe it's their accent.

What a waste of time.

Good call! You really made a good decision. Totally different cars, Porsche is still easier to the eyes than that ugly M3 ( saying it woth much respect)

Congrats on your new car. I'm sure you will like it. I really enjoy the 6 GT3, but I thought my E46 M3 was a great car, and after driving a couple of new ones, I am really impressed with it too. If I didn't do any track stuff, I would not own the GT3, since it is pretty severe as a street car. I had a 997S C2, which is more similar to your car, and I think it is probably a nearly perfect street sports car. If the car feels right for you, then it is. And feeling is a lot of what Porsche is all about, steering, braking, and suspension. In the GT3, I can feel the moment the front tires start to push, or the rear gets a bit loose, with time to fix it, assuming I haven't totally blown the turn in. It is a level of communication not found in many street cars. And I've never driven a sports sedan that delivers a driving feel as satisfying as the M3. If it was all about hp and speed, I would still be driving a ZO6.

Like the other person said, the video is poor and besides... it's just not true that the M3 is faster than the 997S in the model years you mentioned. Even the 'ring times are something like 7 seconds apart with the 997S being in the lead. That's what the cars are capable of with apt drivers.

Throw PDK into the mix and you're looking at a 17 second gap or so, which is about where the e46M3 is behind the current M3. Cars with that much time gap are not really in the same league.

The race was pretty conclusive, I'm not sure why you would watch anything after that.

The OP has a non-S 997 AWD... Besides that fact, the E92 M3 is clearly faster than the 997S from 2005-2008 in acceleration. You are confusing the 997 with the 997.2, which is a VERY different model. PDK became available in the 997.2 and also came with a bump of 30 horsepower from revised heads and direct injection. The new 997.2 is significantly faster.

I'm not confusing cars at all, a 2005 997.1 S with a 'ring time of 7:59 to an M3 time of 8:05 is a clear difference.... and yes the PDK car is about 16 seconds or so faster than the M3 around the 'ring.
