I just saw (and, better yet, heard) the Orr Autosports LTW at Brainerd International Raceway last weekend - it's a beast. The Orr car is in full race trim and looks and sounds amazing.

I find it kind of interesting that the LTW doesn't have Vader seats - I would have expected it would, even if many owners would pull them out and replace them with Sparco or Recaro racing seats.

I don t find it odd at all myself. Remember that cloth is cheaper and that the "lux" style seats were a higher volume seat (found the normal "3" "is" models) which means that it is a cheaper seat most likely. Supplier would make BMW pay less per seat since they are making more of the same kind of seat. The vader was lower volume than the "lux" style seats.

Remember that the LTW was bmw's way of saying sorry for not bringing the euro model over because they could not meet cost targets (maybe even emissions certification) by bringing the euro motor over. Splurging for vaders would negate that purpose.

Also possible explanation, the "lux" seats are actually betterthan the vaders in terms of actual lateral support and even comfort (in my humble opinion). Also, cloth lets you slide around less than leather; which makes it better for motorsport than leather.

if you couple those 2 schools of thoughts, that's a triple win: lower cost, better comfort, better function
we'll never know for sure unless we talk to a bigwig from back then

I agree with you on the benefits of cloth (cost, weight, and traction all favor cloth over leather), but cloth Vaders exist too. Personally I find them more supportive and cradling than the Luxes, though obviously YMMV. I can't imagine the cost difference being anything significant on a car at this price point, with such limited production, and I would have thought BMW would install their "best" sports seats in the LTW. In any case it's a minor point, and certainly doesn't chill my great enthusiasm for the awesome LTW.

What is the weight difference b/t a lux seat, and a vader?

vaders are 10+ pounds heavier on average (could be more if you were comparing a manual lux seat to a power vader).
