I got a small nick that expanded overnight. My insurance will cover the glass fully with no deductible, but only using aftermarket glass (aftermarket will still have the rain sensor area and green tint at the top). Because its my windshield I am concerned about aberrations in the glass (i.e. wavy lines or distortions). Apparently I can get oem bmw glass but I'd have to wait a week and it will cost $200. In this case, I'm not sure its worth it.
Has anyone use Safelite auto glass repair? Is it ok? They seem customer-oriented over there and apparently I can check it out before it gets installed, so thats good. But he said sometimes its hard to tell until its mounted if there are issues.

I used Safelite about a month ago, but only to get a small rock chip repaired. The service guy was very friendly and seemed knowledgeable; he let me watch the entire process. They have a lifetime guarantee on their work, which I also liked. I don't know about getting the OEM glass versus aftermarket, someone else should chime in there...

Most A/M glass I see has some wavy areas in the glass, but unless you really know what to look for most people would never notice it. The biggest issue, is that the glass will no longer say BMW as it will have the A/M tag on it. It is warranted through Safelite, so it shouldn't be a big deal.

I got mine replaced by safelite and haven't had any issues.
The only thing I noticed was the rain sensor is a little inconsistent. In my case they wanted $500 for the BMW windshield so aftermarket was good enough for me. They all pass the same DOT inspection anyways and safelite guarantees their work lifetime.

I got Safelite on my E36 a few years ago, couldn't tell the difference to be honest.

We use Safelite all the time. Never an issue, and they warranty the work/glass. Unless you're pressed about the logo, You should have no concerns going that route.

I just went through the same decision. Went with A/M glass because if there was a problem they would replace it right away. I have no deductible either and went with Pilkington (sp?) which a reputable windshield company near me said they had good experiences with. So far so good. No logo but it does say Pilkington. They told me if I had problems with it I could get it replaced and pay the extra $200 or whatever it was for the one with the BMW logo.

I would stick with PPG, OEM, or Pilkington, haven't heard great things about Safelite's quality.
