DIY stereo upgrde plan...good plan or bad plan?

So I think I've got my DIY upgrade plan for my E46 M3 vert HK system, drum roll please...

I plan to upgrde to door highs and add a sub w/amp first, give it a listen as to how it sounds keeping the stock amp for the interior speakers. If more components or upgrades are still needed, or stock amp replacement, I'll do that in small steps/phases as needed.

Any thoughts? I feel like doing an entire system is too much, but doing baby step upgrades to evaluate the differences in sound and output is smart, safe, and cost efficient way to go.

If anyone can share recommendations for sub, sub amp, door highs, and any DIY links for these 2 upgrades please share. Now I'm siked to get this moving!!!
