Just for future reference - there are reverse-twist drills made. Sears used to carry them - they work well with EZouts - since most of the time using the reverse twist bit in an electric drill turned to reverse - the broken part will unscrew due to the reverse turning force of the drill.

It was probably tighten way too much and it gave out with time.
