Default Re: what is the best exhaust for a 2008 e92 under 10k!!

It depends on what you are hoping for from your new exhaust. If it is power you are after then you will almost certainly be disappointed with whatever you buy. If you want more noise then almost any exhaust will make you happy. If you want to lose some weight then the Akraprovic titanium exhaust is by far the lightest. This is what BMW uses in their own high performance M3s, and will save you about 50 lbs if you get the whole exhaust, or 30 lbs for back half. Contrary to what many people believe there is almost no performance benefit to an aftermarket exhaust (at least on cars with decent exhaust systems). As an example, the loud optional exhaust that was / is? available for the Corvette gave zero improvement in power. On an otherwise stock car you might expect a 1% increase in power at the top end. This is so little power that one could not hope to even reliably measure it on a dyno, much less see a performance gain on the street or track.

This is much like these aftermarket "cold air intakes" for cars that already have a cold air intake (which is pretty much every car built in the past decade). These, sometimes very expensive, cold air intakes generally provide zero power increase, and sometimes actually decrease power. At least an aftermarket, loud, exhaust provide some sensory input that may add something to the driving experience, but the cold air intakes simply provide a psychological power increase, similar to what you get after an oil change.
