Default AC Schnitzer BLACK Rear Diffuser

Replicas of the ACS CHROME rear diffuser are plentiful, but I have yet to see a replica of the BLACK ACS rear diffuser. Anyone know where such an item can be purchased? Looking for a replica, since a couple sticks with carbon fiber on them will never be worth $2000 to me.

OR, does anyone know how difficult it would be to remove the chrome pieces (to paint them) from the chrome version?

Unfortunately there is no replicas out there that I know of, infact I purchased a knockoff from ModBargains to try and achieve that look by sanding/painting. Upon sanding it I ruined it as the chrome finish is very thin in some areas. I just can't convince myself to spend that kind of money on something that installs to a part that can be removed/stolen in seconds. But I definately like that look.

If you are painting over the chrome, then what difference does it make that you "ruined" the chrome by sanding it? Isn't that a given?

No my friend, I mean I sanded it to the point where there was no chrome left, which didn't take much at all. Therefore creating an uneven surface where the chrome edge will be noticeable when painted. At that point I tried to remove all the chrome thus leaving dips and craters. You can give it a shot yourself, but I would recommend using some 3m vinyl and see if that will withsand the heat of the exhaust. I purchased another one and that's what I'm going to attempt.

Mines is a bit different as it's a mix of this and the CSL style diffuser but here is mines. Have only test fitted. No installed/painted pictures yet.. The middle "air dam" is removable as well. I'm going to paint it all to colour match but leave the centre section exposed like everyone does. I'm debating keeping that removable air dam CF or painting that to colour as well to mix it up a bit.. not sure, might look like crap if I do.. haha

Ah, I see. Maybe if you use something less abrasive, such as 0000 steel wool? The paint should stick fine if you just lightly take the shine off of the chrome.

Yea, I used a 1000 grit to sand but took for granted that the chrome was thick enough. Ooops. If your going to take that route then really lightly...oh and beware of the finish over the carbon, it sratches easily as well. Not impossible to achieve, just take your time. It's a one shot deal!
