it would probably be helpful if you tell us for what purpose? Track days, club racing, showcar, time trials, street fun, etc....

A little OT, but does a bolt-on roll cage provide sufficient protection in a rollover?

Provides a lot more protection then what you'd have without it. However, a weld-in is always the safest option.

i'd imagine if you're going the route of an actual full roll cage, it'd be best to go all the way and get a weld in cage.

but again, this is gonna just start a whole debate about the qualities of a bolt in solution vs welded.

I've been in a car that rolled and have seen good drivers that rolled because of coolant/oil spilled from the car in front. When it's your time...the last thing that should not come across your mind is...f**K!!!...why didn't I get a welded roll bar/cage...

If you get a cage, you need to drive with a helmet full time. If you get a roll bar, the bar is behind you.

I had a 6pt (with diagonal brace pic in avatar) that I bought from someone on this forum. Bottom line YOU DON'T NEED A HELMET!!!! If you drive like an fool than yes you have a chance of nocking your head on the bar going accross the top (at that point you already banged up our car). Now that said I wouldn't do it again unless for a prupose built vehicle as it becomes a PITA to get in and out of (that was the biggest issue for me) with the cross bars in place. So in short if you drive like a child than yes you might bang your head on the bars. Drive like an adult, respect your car and you will be fine. You guys should look at Nobles, Ultimas, SLC's, GT3 and the like as they all come from the factory WITH FULL CAGES.
